Legacy Garden

The Legacy Garden at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum is a sprawling vista complete with magnolias, a flowing fountain, a rose garden and brick pathways. It is the result of a collaborative venture between the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Leadership St. Pete Class of 2008, the city's Midtown Economic Development Initiative and the museum.

The Leadership Class of 2008 raised more than $40,000 in donations to provide 13,000 brick pavers, 1,200 plants, sod, mulch, irrigation and fencing. The garden now offers a beautiful outdoor space that serves as a centerpiece for the Jordan Park neighborhood.

In addition to being a revenue generator for the museum, resources from the garden's rental will help with the expansion of exhibits and displays.

With more than 350 bricks sponsored, a stroll along the pathway that meanders through the garden includes a search for the names for family and friends. Bricks are still available for "Pave-the-Way" sponsorships by calling the museum at 727-323-1104.
