The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum hosted a private screening of Red Tails
Saturday, January 21, 2012

The film Red Tails depicts the challenges and heroism of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II and is produced by George Lucas (Star Wars and Indiana Jones). Lucas was a recent guest on the Tom Joyner Morning show and discussed the challenges he had in finding anyone in Hollywood who would invest the marketing dollars to get this film into theaters. The Hollywood investors said that they just didn't know how well an "all black action movie" would play to the movie-going audience. As a result, Lucas, Oprah and Tyler Perry put up the remaining $35 million to get the film to the theaters. The cost of the film is $100 million.
The Woodson's challenge was to prove Hollywood wrong and get the word out to see a movie that accurately shows the history and determination of "real" American Heroes. More than 200 people were in attendance! Thank you all for the support.
