The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum will host the following events during Black History Month:

Feb. 8: Wednesday Weekly readings: Readings about trailblazers significant to the African American struggle will be read by community volunteers to students visiting the museum during Black History Month. The weekly readings will be held from 9 to noon and is by appointment only. Readings are also scheduled for Feb. 15, 22 and 29. Feb. 11: Lunch & A Candid Conversation: Join in discussing the movie/book The Help with a diverse audience from the community. Meet and mingle at 11 a.m. and enjoy lunch and engaging dialogue. Tickets are $20.

Feb. 12: Sweetheart Shuffle at the historic Manhattan Casino. Get an early start by stepping out with your Valentine by dancing the night away to the sounds of Buster Cooper, the Shawn Brown Band, On Que Players and Theo Valentine and Friends. Feb. 15: An Evening with Frederick Douglass: Donald Dowridge of Tampa as the statesman who was a prolific writer, orator and social reformer who after escaping slavery, became a leader of the abolitionist movement. Feb. 19: Life, Legacy and the Dream that Came True: An inspirational afternoon of rhythm, dance and poetry under the oaks while celebrating African American heritage in the beautiful Legacy Garden. Feb. 24: Jack & Jill of America will sponsor a Black History program at 6 p.m. for area youth. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (727) 323-1104 or e-mail info@woodsonmuseum.org.
 

Feb. 26: I Have a Dream Mass Choir will host a community fair in the museum’s Legacy Garden for neighborhood youth. The free event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. and is open to the public. For information or to purchase tickets, call (727) 323-1104 or e-mail info@woodsonmuseum.org.
